Promote  ---   Designing a Tailored Music Experience

User Interviews

Hugo  Music producer

"Due to the reason of copyright, I can't find all the songs I want to listen to on one music app. I often switch between apps to search for a specific song."

Yuan  High school student

"Finding an auto-generated playlist that is perfectly tailored to me isn't easy, and creating one from scratch without suggestions is frustrated."

Hao  College student

"I don't like the complex layout in a music app with many useless functions. They are distracting me while I am trying to listen to music."

Hanna  College student

"I prefer to learn the story behind the music, and I like to see other's comments and share instead of just listen."

Cognitive Walkthrough

Designing an interactive system for a music junkie to solve frustration in tailoring problem, and customize their problem.

How might we? 1

"I feel that the combination of too many functions will affect the experience of people who want to listen to music directly."

"I like to have a music community, not just a music player. The displayed content is more diverse and more likely to arouse empathy"

"It will be easier to release some emotions through music at night, I am more willing to know some stories behind the music. But during the day, basically just listening to music."

How might we help the different types of users to have a better chance to experience?

1. Onboarding -with questions
- Require the user to input basic information.
- Three themes are provided for users to choose first, and each theme corresponds to a different listening mode:
    1. Deepin music mode-directly enter the music playing state, you can browse only playlist/search/recommended music, etc.
    2. Music community mode-In addition to basic music playback, more include adding friends, sharing trends, browsing comments, participating in live broadcasts, etc.
    3. Mixed mode-both

2.Modules/widgets
- User chooses the modules by themselves.
- Preview of Modules before it's added.
- Intelligently suggest some modules based on user information
- Save this layout as a start page
- Set the function of the module to appear related to a specific time.
- Allow the function module to be swapped, deleted, or rearranged.

3. Checklist
- Check the musician/artist /style/genre they like

How might we? 2

I don’t like wasting time but Sometimes I need to switch between applications to find music that suits my activity.”
”I like the recommendation function, but sometimes it is not accurate, and it always recommends me the same type of songs.“

“creating a playlist from scratch without suggestions is frustrated”.”

How might we help users to tailor the music that suits them?

1.- “Heartbeat” mode-mix to play the some they marked and new song by recommending.
- Record how many times they skip the song. If the user doesn’t like a certain song, they will usually skip it. But if a song has been played many times and skipped few times, it means that they may like the song. (Although the user does not mark it as a favorite)
- Simply type an emotion into the search field to find the music-related mood.
- Ask what activities the user will do and give recommend playlists.

2.Specific scenes: background music for work, study, sports
or
Specific emotion types: when happy, peaceful, sad, need music to help or accompany
or
Specific singers or styles: discover new singers, bands, and listen to their marked songs

3. Link to other apps, such as TikTok, to recommend music based on users’ favorite videos.

How might we? 3

“I don’t like wasting time but Sometimes I need to switch between applications to find music that suits my activity.”

How might we design a better experience instead of switch between applications?

1.Link to all the music apps that user use, and login them before searching.

2.a browse function- user search music on my app, the app will show all the music but they all have a link to other music apps. If you already logged in to those apps, the music will start play directly. like it opened a browser in the app, but they don’t have to switch between apps)

How might we? 4

” There are a lot of lists in my music app, which is very messy. Some of which I liked  earlier but didn’t want to listen to now, but I always don’t want to organize them.” (But the system will recommend songs to them based on this)

How might we help users to organize their playlists?

1.Organizing our playlist with filter: Alphabetically /number of times that user click on them to listen to them/genre/

2.Organize users’ playlists. If a playlist has been saved for a long time but users rarely open it, the system can automatically delete it. (For example, set the time to one year).
